Internships

Internships at some of the leading companies in the United States help you fine-tune skills, explore interests, and make job connections. Paid and unpaid, internships are available through the Miller Center for Career Services in nearly every field, and include both full- and part-time opportunities.

Hands-on work in your field of interest can offer a competitive advantage in job hunting. Start scouting for an internship early by attending career fairs, networking sessions and recruiting programs. Many students complete more than one internship during their four years; the real-world experience is value added to your Bentley degree. And, many graduates (about 42 percent) go on to receive job offers as a direct result of their internships.

Here are a few examples of students' recent internships:

Mike Kearney

Russell-Cooke Solicitors, London, UK
Legal and Charity Team Intern

  • Aided the charity law division in preparing for events at the Princess Diana Foundation and the annual Charity Trustee Conference.
  • Updated the firm’s customer relationship management client database to improve communication between Russell-Cooke and its clients.
  • Performed daily legal and administrative tasks, ranging from responding to emails to analyzing and comparing charity fundraising law in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

“In high school, I spent a week on Bentley’s campus as part of the Wall Street 101 summer program, where I got a crash course in finance in the Bentley Trading Room. After that experience, it was hard not to compare every other school to Bentley, and those other schools had a lot to compete with! The more I learned about Bentley, the more I saw myself spending four years of my life as part of the community here.

With the amazing Career Services, small class sizes and so much else, Bentley prepares every student for a successful and balanced life. That preparation starts with internships. Every student is encouraged to complete one, and many do more. My experience in London was incredible, and I worked on some interesting and complicated projects during my time at Russell-Cooke. Most importantly, I learned how the business skill sets all Bentley students acquire can really apply to any profession. With a business education, your career options are open ended. You never know where a Bentley degree can take you.”

Kim Angelovich

The ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter
Development Intern

  • Designed promotional materials used to promote fundraisers and ALS awareness
  • Contacted local retailers to obtain donations
  • Presented a new idea for fundraising and began research to begin implementing the project

"I had always known that I had wanted to go into business, and when I stepped on Bentley’s campus for the first time, I knew that I had found the school for me. Unsure of what my major was going to be, I was impressed with the well-rounded education, as well as the accessibility to all of the technological labs that Bentley has to offer.

After taking my first few classes, I knew that I had found my true passion: marketing. My internship with the ALS Association gave me insight into the nonprofit world, in addition to firsthand experience with promotions and fundraising. It also has provided me with an understanding of how a small office functions. This allowed me to see all sides of the business process. Interning at the ALS Association has opened many doors for me in the marketing world and has been a stepping stone for my career."

Gloria Mateo

Deloitte & Touche LLP, Boston, MA
Audit Intern

  • Performed analytical review of audit documents
  • Reviewed client accounting, operating procedures and systems of internal control
  • Helped in the preparation of financial statement reports and documentation
  • Facilitated in the performance tests of internal controls

“Working as an intern for Deloitte was a marvelous experience. I got a good preview of what working in the public accounting field is like and the reassurance that I had chosen the right major for me. Throughout my internship, I was able to engage with clients in various industries, from health care providers and life sciences to banking and securities. Visiting clients in different industries allowed me to understand the importance of being a well-rounded person.

Given the diverse range of courses in the business area, as well as the liberal studies classes that you are required to take, my education has been well-rounded and broad. During my internship, it felt really satisfying to apply all the knowledge that I had acquired, not only from my accounting courses but from others as well. For example, one of my clients was an investment company. The finance and economics courses I took enabled me to better understand their business. The diversity of courses that I have taken at Bentley has prepared me to work with all kinds of clients in any industry.

Before working with Deloitte in their Boston office, I had the opportunity to complete an internship in their Cleveland office the previous summer. I just fell in love with the firm, their culture, and the working environment. I was thrilled to accept a job offer to start full-time in Boston in the fall following graduation.”
